Matip: Roma and Lazio ready to fight for Liverpool veteran
Joel Matip has reportedly attracted attention from Lazio and Roma as he prepares to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
The 32-year-old Cameroonian defender, who also holds an EU passport, has a little over two months left on his contract with the Reds, which isn’t set to be renewed. Once a key player under Jurgen Klopp, he was forced out of action back in December after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Lazio and Roma are both expected to shake things up in the summer under the guidance of their new coaches, with Igor Tudor and Daniele De Rossi respectively starting their own projects in the Italian capital. As such, both are set to invest in the summer to try and close the gap.
Matip opportunity
As reported by Corriere della Sera via Calciomercato.com, Matip is gearing up to leave Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer, attracting the attention of both Roma and Lazio, who could open talks with the 32-year-old in the coming weeks.
For both Roman clubs, a deal likely depends on securing European qualification, and the player himself is open to a move to the Italian capital.
